FANATICON Volunteers Meeting May 8 for Posters and Pizza!
Come join us! The FANATICON Volunteer Brigade is meeting at the Asheville Art Museum at 10:00AM on Saturday, May 8. We’re going to hand out postcards and posters, then split up in teams and let all of Asheville know that FANATICON is almost here! Then, after a long day of poster-ing and postcard-ing, we’re meeting up downtown for pizza at Asheville Brewing Company!
So, come meet your fellow volunteers, help spread the word about FANATICON, then celebrate over pizza! Or, if you’re working on Saturday, but would like some postcards or posters at your business, let us know and we’ll come by!
For more information about being a FANATICON Volunteer, visit our Volunteer page or email info@fanaticon.org! See you on Saturday!
NOTE: You DON’T have to wear a costume to be a volunteer. (Unless you want to.)

FANATICON Welcomes the Carolina Ghostbusters!
I must admit that one of our main concerns heading into FANATICON has been that Pack Place is known to be haunted. Now, we will worry no more, because the Carolina Ghostbusters are coming! And they’re bringing their Ecto-3A ghost-busting vehicle with them!
The Ecto-3A will be parked right outside Pack Place and the Asheville Art Museum, so you can’t miss it. Gather all your paranormal friends and ghost-chasing relatives, come on down and meet Doc and check out the Ecto-3A!
You can learn more about the Carolina Ghostbuters at their official website. See you at FANATICON!

FANATICON Unveils Poster Contest Winner
Congratulations to artist Brent Brown on his winning FANATICON Poster Contest entry! We received 13 amazing and diverse entries, and our judges had a heck of a time deciding a winner. However, Brent’s energetic and fun depiction of FANATICON‘s arrival in Asheville edged out the competition and won the title! As our winner, Brent will receive $250, plus an Annual Family Membership to the Asheville Art Museum. Brent’s prizes will be awarded at FANATICON on Saturday, May 15 at 2:00 PM, preceding our special presentation with Butch Guice in the Diana Wortham Theatre.
If you’d like to see the other fantastic creations from the talented artists who entered the contest, you’re in luck! All the entries will be on display at FANATICON!
Finally, we’d like to thank our panel of judges who devoted their time and attention to the selection process:
• Nancy Sokolove (Adult Programs Manager, Asheville Art Museum). Nancy is our point person at the Museum and has been a generous and enthusiastic supporter of FANATICON from the beginning, way back in May of 2009. Thanks, Nancy!
• Jami Daniels (Daniels Graphics). Jami is a longtime fan of pop culture and art, counting artist Chris Ware as a personal hero. Daniels Graphics will be printing the commemorative collector’s edition of the poster that will be sold at the event!
• Jason Sandford (Ashvegas.com). Writer, journalist and now undisputed source of everything going on in Asheville, Jason possesses a nose for news and a keen eye for detail.
So, thank you to our judges, Brent and especially to everyone who entered! See you at FANATICON!
