Special Thanks from FANATICON!

image

After a year of planning, FANATICON has now come and gone. We had a blast and we hope you did, too! Asheville and our surrounding communities showed up and proved to everyone the strength and numbers of the comic book and geek culture communities here. The Museum’s final attendance count for people who entered through the front door was 3,500 attendees. That number does not include people who entered through the courtyard doors from the street, so it’s probable the actual number is higher. But we’re not complaining.

FANATICON began as, and will continue to be, a labor of love from a group of comic book fans. We’ve been getting some great feedback on the Facebook page and via Twitter. If you attended and have any ideas, suggestions or just stories from the con, please share them with us. You can post here in the comments, on the Facebook page or feel free to email us at info@fanaticon.org. We’d love to hear from you.

In the next few days, we’ll be posting links to news stories, photo galleries and blogs featuring the event. If you have a link or photo gallery you’d like to share, please let us know.

Finally, we’d like to thank the staff of the Asheville Art Museum, Pack Place and the Diana Wortham Theater, all of whom worked extremely hard to help us with FANATICON. We’d like to thank our special guest Butch Guice for making our first event feel so special. Thanks to Craig Fischer who donated so much of his time to share his love and enthusiasm for comics with our attendees. Thanks to all our volunteers who worked tirelessly to make the event a success. Thanks to our FANATICON Heroes (pictured above) who donated their time and talents to inspire imaginations and creativity throughout the day. Thanks to Asheville Brewing Company and The Grove House Entertainment Complex for jumping on board when all we had was an idea. Thanks to the Falcon Lords, How I Became the Bomb, the cast of Little Shop of Horrors and Bombs Away Cabaret for entertaining us and elevating the whole experience. Thanks to our artists and vendors who made an unconventional convention space work and filled Pack Place with magic. And finally, thanks to our attendees, who brought their positive energy, passion and joy to the event. I lost count of the number of vendors who told me how much they appreciated how friendly and welcoming our crowd was.

Be sure to follow us on Facebook, Twitter and MySpace to keep up with our announcements and special events throughout the year. We love you, Asheville! See you in 2011!
